I have met many wonderful Frisco residents over the last few months as part of my campaign. One of them is Frisco's famous Snow Cone lady, Mary Mathis. While my family and I have spent many summers partaking of the great snow cone tradition in Frisco, I knew little about the lady behind the stand.

As part of this campaign, I learned the story of how Mary inspired Isabel Sem to first consider running for school board. For those of you who do not know, Isabel was Frisco School Board's first ever woman member, and served for 10 years. Frisco's Sem Elementary School is named for Isabel.

I also found out that her grandson, Matthew, is a member of my Sunday School class. I had of course known Matthew for some time, but never knew his grandmother. I always enjoy connecting the dots of people that I know from different parts of my life.

Mary is a very hard worker in this community, making a difference in many ways. But she always takes a behind-the-scenes role in the way she gives back to the community.

The Snow Cone Lady is opening her new location at 8760 John W. Elliott Street in Frisco. She will open around May 1st. Check back on my website for updates on her actual opening date.
