Starwood Meeting
04/17/2008 22:42
A huge thanks to the Starwood HOA for hosting a Meet
the Candidates night, despite the torrential rains
and lightning. Mayor Mike Simpson was there and
expressed his thanks to the candidates for their
commitment to serve the city, and he also thanked
Starwood residents for their past campaign support.
One of the big concerns in Starwood is the potential rezoning split between Spears Elementary and the planned elementary school on Legacy Drive. I share the same concerns over the splitting of any neighborhood, and I will make the practical preservation of school zones a priority. I stressed with the citizens tonight that in the end, what is best for the students will always come first. I also underscored the importance of assuring equal education quality at every school, regardless of the neighborhood.
It was great to see my good friends Nina Barr, David Porter, Rhonda Martin, Bob and Lyn Chambers, Mayor Mike Simpson and many others.
On a side note, Lyn Chambers has been elected as the "Silver Haired Legislator" for 4 counties in the North Texas area. This is a prestigious position where Lyn represents the interests of citizens over 60 years old in the Texas Silver Haired Legislature. Lyn is an amazing person -- she will do a great job in this role for North Texans! Check it out at txshl.org.
